📋 Highlights
  • Revenue & EPS Growth:: Q3 revenue hit $988 million (+10% YoY), EPS at $1.93, both above guided ranges.
  • Electronics & Packaging Surge:: Revenue rose 25% YoY to $289 million, driven by 9% sequential growth in chemistry and equipment.
  • Semiconductor Market Resilience:: $415 million revenue (-4% sequentially) but +10% YoY, with double-digit growth expected in 2026 from etch and deposition tech.
  • Chemistry Equipment Expansion:: Lead times (4-12 months) and capacity additions suggest a near-doubling of tooling sales in 2025, up high-single-digit YoY.
  • Deleveraging Progress:: $100 million voluntary prepayment in Q3, with $400 million paid down in 2025 toward 2x leverage target by 2027.

Segment Performance

Their semiconductor revenue was $415 million, down 4% sequentially, but up 10% year-over-year. The sequential decline was driven by lower RF power sales due to the timing of NAND upgrade activity. Electronics and Packaging revenue was $289 million, up 9% sequentially, driven by growth in their chemistry and equipment businesses. Specialty industrial market revenue remained relatively flat, consistent with stable trends seen over the past several quarters.

Guidance and Outlook

MKS's Q4 guidance includes revenue of $990 million, plus or minus $40 million, with semiconductor revenue expected to be $415 million, plus or minus $15 million. Electronics and Packaging revenue is expected to be $295 million, plus or minus $10 million, which would be up 16% year-over-year at midpoint. Adjusted EBITDA is expected to be $235 million, plus or minus $24 million. According to John Lee, the equipment they are building and installing now puts them in a good position for additional chemistry revenue starting in 2026.

Valuation

With a P/E Ratio of 37.08 and an EV/EBITDA of 11.32, the market is pricing in a certain level of growth for MKS. Analysts estimate next year's revenue growth at 7.3%. The company's ROE is 11.31%, and ROIC is 6.18%, indicating a decent return on equity and invested capital. The Net Debt / EBITDA ratio is -0.45, indicating a healthy debt position. The current valuation multiples suggest that the market is expecting continued growth from MKS, driven by its strong position in the semiconductor and electronics and packaging markets.

Operational Highlights

MKS continues to take advantage of their improved cash flow to reduce leverage, with another voluntary prepayment of $100 million on their term loan. The company's focus remains on investing in their business and paying down debt.
