1928 - Paul V. Galvin and his brother Joe Galvin founded Galvin Manufacturing Corporation, the precursor to Motorola Solutions, Inc.
1930 - Galvin Manufacturing Corporation introduced its first product, the 'Galvin', a battery eliminator that allowed radios to operate on household electricity.
1940 - The company introduced its first two-way radio, the 'Handie-Talkie', which was used by the U.S. military during World War II.
1947 - Galvin Manufacturing Corporation changed its name to Motorola, Inc.
1958 - Motorola, Inc. went public with an initial public offering (IPO).
1960 - Motorola, Inc. introduced its first semiconductor product, a transistor.
1970 - Motorola, Inc. introduced its first microprocessor, the MC6800.
1980 - Motorola, Inc. introduced its first cellular phone, the DynaTAC 8000X.
1990 - Motorola, Inc. introduced its first digital phone, the International 3200.
2004 - Motorola, Inc. split into two companies: Motorola, Inc. and Freescale Semiconductor, Inc.
2011 - Motorola, Inc. split into two companies: Motorola Mobility Holdings, Inc. and Motorola Solutions, Inc.
2012 - Google acquired Motorola Mobility Holdings, Inc. for $12.5 billion.
2014 - Lenovo Group acquired Motorola Mobility Holdings, Inc. from Google for $2.91 billion.
2015 - Motorola Solutions, Inc. acquired Airwave, a UK-based provider of mission-critical communications, for $1.2 billion.
