1901 - John W. Nordstrom opens his first shoe store, Wallin & Nordstrom, in Seattle, Washington.
1923 - Nordstrom expands to Olympia, Washington, with a second store.
1928 - John W. Nordstrom sells his shares of Wallin & Nordstrom to his sons, Everett and Elmer.
1929 - The company is renamed Nordstrom.
1933 - Nordstrom expands to Spokane, Washington, with a third store.
1950 - Nordstrom begins selling clothing and accessories in addition to shoes.
1963 - Nordstrom goes public with an initial public offering (IPO).
1966 - Nordstrom expands to Alaska with a store in Anchorage.
1973 - Nordstrom expands to Oregon with a store in Portland.
1975 - Nordstrom expands to California with a store in San Mateo.
1991 - Nordstrom expands to the East Coast with a store in Paramus, New Jersey.
1993 - Nordstrom launches its e-commerce website.
2000 - Nordstrom expands to the Midwest with a store in Chicago, Illinois.
2011 - Nordstrom expands to New York City with a store in Manhattan.
2014 - Nordstrom acquires Trunk Club, a men's clothing subscription service.
